Children communicating confidently

This practical workshop aims to encourage teachers to think about creating opportunities for their pre-school and early primary age children to communicate confidently and use the English they are learning from the start.

In this session we will look at fun and fruitful activities to provide optimal conditions for pre-school and lower primary children to start speaking.

  • We will consider the needs of very young learners and how we can meet those needs with sound activities for their linguistic development.
  • We will look at how carefully planned routines can involve our children and help them with more controlled and then more spontaneous production.

Vanessa Reilly is a pre-primary and primary teacher passionate about helping children become confident learners of English and supporting their teachers to facilitate this.  She is a teacher trainer and author of many books for pre-school and primary children and teachers for Oxford University Press including Learn with us, Very Young Learners and Writing with children.

She also has an M.A. in English Language Teaching specializing in very young learners (with Distinction) from the University of Warwick.
